What can be done against existing struvite stones?
Adjustment of feeding
One of the most important measures in treating struvite stones is adjusting your dog's feeding! If you have any questions about this, please contact us at any time - use our pet food advice form!
Increasing fluid intake
Adequate fluid intake is crucial to dissolving struvite stones and preventing them from forming again. Make sure your pet has constant access to fresh water to flush the urinary tract and reduce crystal formation.
Reduction of overweight
Being overweight can increase the risk of struvite stones. Weight loss can therefore be part of the therapy.
Treatment for urinary grit
If there is no risk of blockage of the urinary tract, it often makes sense to additionally acidify the urine with medication (with regular pH monitoring of the urine!). You can get urine acidifying medication from your vet.
Treatment for very large stones
Large struvite stones often require stone removal.
